I am a figurative sculptor currently specialising in life-size ceramics. My wall mounted and freestanding sculptures are hand-built in porcelain and stoneware using slab, coil and pinch methods of construction. A forthcoming exhibition of my work at the Dorman Museum, which subsequently transfers to Cardiff, will incorporate filmed images to extend the presentation and meaning of concept. The project in hand, for which I am creating figurative pieces subsumed to water, alludes to a 'return to the elemental' and is linked to the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis. Images encompassing the sculpture will act as signifiers of time and indicators of mood and emotion.

I have just recently set up in business, designing and making women's accessories such as clutch bags, shoulder bags, sash belts and wrap around cuffs. I am planning on working through a number of separately themed projects and would like to use a variation of printing techniques to make each project unique. I am currently working onto leather but am going to start making items on materials such as upholstery, cotton, silks, paper and more.

Researching and developing ways of combining photography, digital imagery and printmaking is the process foremost in my work. Once I am satisfied with the computer image, I print out a half tone positive inkjet transparency and transfer it to the etching plate via UV light. The plate is coated with photopolymer film and then developed in a solution of Soda Ash.
I hope to develop this process in several ways during my time on the AA2A scheme:
1 - Combine aquatint and photopolymer film. The film acts as an acid resist and is suitable for the deepest bites.
2 - Using continuous tone positives (no dotted screen structure).
3 - Etching plates in Ferric Chloride or Copper Sulphate.
