Terry Hammill
For the last few years I have been developing a website that describes and records the 'doomed projects of unknown British artist Terry Hammill'. The website - www.galerieicizoo.com - is sponsored by the entrepreneur Ivan Kovlovsky and the gallery's archives include several finished projects and works in progress.
Some of the projects are imaginary (virtual?) and some are real (they exist!) - some could be said to be failures and some could be said to be successful - but they all share the same endeavour: to push an illogical idea along a logical path. In that respect they have much in common with the aims and methods of OuLiPo (Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle or Workshop for Potential Literature) - one of my favourite daft organisations.
Three of the website projects - Meltdown at Nambung, The Miracle of Art, Collapsed Words - are on-going and have overlapping concerns such as fictional mythologies, site-specific sculpture, operas, semaphore as a communication system, and how to become a saint.
I would like time to explore processes that are new to me such as ceramics and computer animation and to use them to extend my gallery of projects.
'The Signals of Saint Semaphore at York Minster '
site specific sculpture, wood and MDF, 12 sculptures - each 90cm high
