University of Newcastle 2008/2009
Taryn Edmonds
My work often responds to stimulus drawn from the surrounding urban landscape, and in this project I will be creating pinhole cameras using a variety of everyday, commonly discarded objects, in order to re-present and subtly subvert these items and images. My approach to the work will be quite experimental and I anticipate the results to be quite abstracted. Part of this project is to allow for the work to develop organically and to identify new areas of investigation.
I am looking forward to working in an art college environment alongside students and tutors who are working creatively and interested in taking part in critical discussion, I feel this will be hugely beneficial to myself and my practice. As well as this, the opportunity to access the darkroom facilities at Newcastle University will allow me to physically realise this piece of work and therefore enable me to further my practice.
I hope to achieve a small body of work that combines photography and object-based elements, that builds upon my continuing investigation of the urban environment. Although at this stage I have specific ideas I want to explore, I am also interested in allowing for new areas of investigation to arise and hope that there might be unexpected results that will lead to further stages of this work.
