For Susan Collis, the image of the splash or stain has become a motif for an increasingly unwanted side of the production process. Carefully crafted by hand, her faux-soiled garments, objects and surfaces hint at the creation of other, absent works or work-practices. These are specific marks that have been collected from a number of sources and faithfully copied, using techniques such as hand embroidery, inlay and collage, thereby encouraging a consideration of craft and labour.
