The A3 single colour prints are taken from a series of lino prints documenting the industrial landscape on the River Hull, where the artist is based.
"My work looked for visual motifs peculiar to the river bank- the industrial detritus, and the patterns inherent in pier supports and in cooling towers. I employed lino-cutting for the tactile, considered process. This lent itself to reducing visual information to a stark, static state.
In terms of the AA2A scheme, it was rewarding for me to spend time gradually building up the images that I wanted to create - initially through photography, then by drawing and, finally, as the final prints. AA2A reinstated the importance of gradual development, giving my project necessary 'breathing space'."
