Camberwell College of Arts   2008/2009

Nicola Schauerman

I'd like to use my 6 month access period to carry out research and produce a series of interactive artworks. These will be developments of the Genetic Moo project I have been working on for the last two years. I hope to produce several interactive studies which culminate in a major installation of a torch lit, intestine filled, animated gel sac, whose current working title is 'The Glob'.

I'd like to explore the aesthetics required to make a work which encourages feelings of both revulsion and attraction by making visual and audio sketches or small scale interactive test pieces, and carrying out surveys and interviews with research volunteers. In particular I am interested in what happens when more than one person interacts with a piece at once - what sort of extra dialogues can be achieved?

I'd like to work within the impressive Digital Art department at Camberwell, and the facilities on offer. This placement will help me to develop my work and provide the students with access to a practicing digital artist. I would hope to end the project with a major digital art show, either within college or organised through the University of the Arts London.
