Michael Sadler
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the printmaking department at Derby and intend to further my printmaking activities via an open access print studio in my area. This has been quite a learning curve, and I remain gratefull to all those who offered advice and help during my AA2A time. The starting point for three of the prints produced came from a series of paintings made last year which took false colour satellite images of river delta systems as their inspiration. I had always intended that the images should be drawn and not photomechanically made; discovering True Grain and its ability to reproduce drawn and painted marks with remarkable accuracy has led to the physical apperance of the final prints. Precise registration proved to be a problem early on, and one series of prints had to be completely scrapped. My paintings on the delta theme are quite brightly coloured, but after a period of experimentation, I decided to adopt a more limited, even monochromatic approach to the use of colour in these prints using overprintings of the same slightly modified colour to produce a layered image.
I now look forward to further printmaking activities, and am hoping to investigate, develop and produce lithographic and further silkscreen prints.
