Megumi Takahashi

I have been attracted by printmaking which has expanding possibilities and exciting results. The variety of the process is very enjoyable and it leads to visual communication, which helps an artist express his/her artistic sense and sensitivity through its fascinating results.

At the beginning, I was fascinated by drawing lines. It appeals to my sense of beauty. It has infinite possibilities. Through etching, I have found the beauty of depth in aquatint. The velvety depth gives another direction to my work.

I've been trying to link my sensibility to the art work by focusing on what I want to express. An object and its surroundings, the atmosphere and spaces, they together construct a piece of work, which contains my own world or coexist. Having a fixed idea for art does not make you create things. You have to be free and feel free. Paradoxical points of view make the artistic field wider. For example, creation can, in a way, be destruction. Disassembly exposes the beauty of the working process which in turn leads to creative work. I should discover processes of nature, life, and many others which might be, as yet, unknown to me.

I have been using strings to 'draw' about my sensibility, so that it would show the process of my art work with my own stitches and how I worked on it. And the piece of work starts breathing on a sheet of paper. I would like to give it proper breathing and confidence, and expand my world through art. The balance of easiness and tension is important. Without any objection or rule, I would have unrestricted conceptions on my work. I would like to cultivate a broad view for it.
