Maria Bailey

As an artist and designer working with light, surface qualities, colour, and sensitivity are key to my work. Visceral connection with memory and transition are fundamental to my approach, as is the process of creative experimentation and discovery. Using light to create art, I believe it is possible to combine contemporary design with ethereal and spiritual dimensions.

The AA2A scheme is enabling me to explore and consolidate a creative concept that was developed for my final year degree major core project. A contemporary take on the idea of a traditional canvas, ‘In-Retrospect’ uses kinetic, responsive coloured light to create evocative shadows on the surface, and I am particularly interested in the innate reactions that these qualities can produce in the viewer.

I feel that it is essential for students to gain insight and inspiration from graduates and working artists - the AA2A scheme has provided me with an essential working environment that will enable me to share the development and realisation of this project and my creative practice.
