Liverpool Community College 2008/2009
Louise Waller
I spent my year as AA2A Ceramic Artist at Liverpool Community College developing several new series of work as well as one off experimental pieces that could possibly lead on to new projects.
During the year I have constantly exhibited my Ceramics, often with “Soup”, the Tate Staff artists group but also independently in Craft and Design shops, galleries and Art Fairs.
It was important to me that I made sure I found the time to experiment and used my funding to invest in Valentines new black chunky clay and lots of coloured oxides and stains. Working with the Black chunky clay to create delicate refined pieces was a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed and the end result made me very excited and keen to push the material even further. Introducing colour to my work is something I have wanted to do for a long time and actually mixing the colour into the material seems to suit my style of working.
The pieces I produced were in many ways a continuation of the style I developed during my MA but with new interest created by the addition of colour and also through using a variety of different clay. I have kept up a sketchbook throughout the year and have just signed up to use the studio one afternoon a week in order that I can continue to develop my practice.
Momentum has been created during this year that I am determined to pursue, I have just taken a post within the Ceramics Dept at LCC teaching a Ceramics Evening Class which I feel I owe a big thank you to Richie the Ceramics Technician and the AA2A organisers for.
