Louise Waller

During the first month on the AA2A scheme I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and students who spend time in the Ceramics department. I have reacquainted myself with slab building as I had not handled clay for almost a year. I have designed and made three prototypes and completed a series of nine finished Ceramic pieces for a Red Dot Group exhibition entitled 'Migration' which opens in December at Liverpool NOVAS Centre. The images are of the work before it goes into the kiln. The pieces are a development from the 'Deco Diamonds' projects that was part of my MA course projects.

In the 'Migration' exhibition I will also be exhibiting a triptych which consists of brown parcel paper collaged onto 3 canvas with wallpaper diamonds to the canvas with 3 stitches of colour, pink, yellow and sky blue. The size of the 9 diamonds corresponds directly with the size of my ceramic diamond pieces and the texture on the surface of the clay is made by rolling the leather hard slab of clay over bird seeds.

I have also been busy planning a 'Soup' group exhibition at Liverpool Hope University Childwall Gateway Building which opens on the 27th November and a group exhibition at St Helens Citadel which will run January to March 2009. I am enjoying the challenge of making new pieces to suit the venues I exhibit in.
