Louise Atkinson

My practice consists of a wide range of techniques and media. In developing my work I prefer to choose the medium most suited to the concept. At present I am researching various bookbinding techniques, combining my interest in paper construction and printmaking. Through making books I can create a lasting record of ephemeral installations through documentation, as well as developing artist books as works in their own right.

This process links to a wider project I have been developing called Artist Book Collective. This is a research project to develop exhibitions and collaborations between book artists to increase the profile of book works in a contemporary art context. The books I am currently making utilise a combination of digital printing/photography and carbon monoprinting. I would like to expand on this by incorporating a broader range of printmaking media into my work.

This opportunity will give me access to appropriate facilities to enable me to develop my work and allow me to experiment with different printmaking media. These techniques will also enable me to produce artist books in small numbers of multiples. I would like to create a series of book works in response to research and techniques developed through the AA2A scheme. Facilities such as the library and lecture programme would be instrumental in this process. These works could then form a cohesive body of work to be exhibited as a whole or individually.
