Liz Waugh McManus
The work explores the potential of cast glass to create images which are immersed, encapsulated or hidden. The theme of avoidance of intimacy (in-to-me-see) runs through several of the pieces. 'Baptism' is about surrender, acquiescence and potential rebirth. (The pose for the figure is taken from traditional paintings of the deposition of Christ from the cross).
Being on the AA2A scheme has given me access to equipment for finishing glass which I do not have in my own studio. It has also allowed me to network with artists with similar interests.
