Lisa Hall
During my time at UCA worked predominantly in the mediatec department with the audio visual equipment and editing facilities to enable me to develop ideas and works into digital sketches.
My practice revolves around investigating the use and impact of sound in a day to day context, focusing on how a sense of self and environment are formed and altered through conscious and subconscious interaction with sound.
The two works exhibited in our end of residency show were films of Audio Performances:
'Storm' is a 30 min soundscape that was broadcast on two radio stations in 2008 as well as acting as an interactive audio performance at Whitstable Binnale. The film displayed was an 8 min documentary of the work.
'Tree Performance' a 2 min film is a 'digital sketch' for an outdoor audio intervention. Soon loud speakers will appear on branches in trees at various locations. The speakers, imitating birds will play soundscapes of bird calls into the environment for the passersby and local wildlife -adding a layer of the absurd to the local and assumed space while hoping to physically affect the behavior of the passing bird life with the calls and deterrents voiced through the bird recordings.
Having access to the facilities and working within a scheduled time has enabled me to develop my ideas quicker and more fully than usual, while enabling me to develop a clearer language in which to play with and demonstrate my ideas and works in progress – overall an extremely successful experience.
