Lee Machell

Lee Machell’s work is founded in sculpture and is dominated by performance. The work is infused with a personal politic that strives for a closer and more instinctive relationship with the physical world. The core motives of the work are to explore locations and places through representative and symbolic forms and found objects.

In the making of performance and sculpture it is the artist’s purpose to discover spiritual value in the everyday and to construct a closer intimacy with his self in his environment.

“I am driven towards uncertain processes. There are common qualities; tension, fragility, nurture, tenderness. All are powerful gestures when applied to urban contexts. It is that poetic juxtaposition of action with objects that develops the ritual in my work, sparking the release of a repressed energy and allowing for purification from cultural toxins, thus, bringing me closer towards equilibrium”.
