Jil Moore

Intrigued by ideas concerning collective consciousness and the debated existence of individuality within the human ‘rush’, I arrange light and transparent materials (water/rain suggest how individual drops become changed once collected together) into 3D (prismatic) environments.

The results vary, film, photographs and sculptural pieces have materialised, usually they arrive in a sequence and most often as a triptych.

Over the past year I have been working on a commission for the CN4M, Community Network for Manchester. This has been a fascinating project which looks at a huge and multifaceted organisation full of strong personalities who are in turns pro active, productive and frustrated as they struggle with farcical funding policy, amongst other distracters, to make a difference.

My response to this project has been to create a sculptural triptych made of found glass objects, water and images caught within vessels. The triptych’s working title is ‘Slapstick’ with the individual pieces currently named ‘curly’ ‘larry’ & ‘ mo’.

I feel satisfied with the work produced through this rewarding and enjoyable experience, however - my studio space is in my home. Though I strive for my work to have no limits despite restrictions, never-the-less, restrictions still exist.

I aim to make full use of the facilities on offer by further exploring this work with a view to possibly introducing film/animation as imagery within. The ideas I aim to experiment with are:

1 Combine, and waterproof, imagery (whether photographic or filmic) into transparent 3D environments.

2 To ricochet the image about the (prismatic) environment.

3 Cause / create / suggest rain in the environment.

An advance on any area of interest would be a break through in terms of evolving the work. This opportunity would enable me to progress beyond presently working with restrictions, and forward into a phase of improved professionalism.
