Ima Pico

My plan during the residency was to create site-specific work for the gallery space within the School of Art and Design composed by some high quality digital images dealing with urban related found sources. To create these artworks I explored the city and surroundings taking digital photographs of posters, publicity, graffiti and signals. Then I worked with the material using the digital technologies available on the scheme including computers, digital camera and printing facilities at the Irwell Campus.

The attraction of being part of this scheme for several months was having an established context, site and audience. My goal during the residency was to create a body of work inspired by a new artistic environment and interaction with other fellow artists. The project culminated in a show at the Borland Gallery where I exhibited the work printed using the facilities of Leftfield Fine Art Publishing. The possibility of booking the art gallery to create a site-specific artwork, and the grant to print the digital images enabled me to develop my idea to its completion. It has been a wonderful experience for me that contributed to the enhancement of my profile and added a valuable experience to my professional store of skills, knowledge and expertise.
