George Charman
A belief in what one sees is built on knowledge and an understanding of what is not seen, but believed to be true. Our whole perception of reality is based on knowledge of likely outcomes.
My work examines how a deviation from this trodden path can reveal alternative modes of reflection.
Using a visual language akin to modernist architectural design, I create situations that subtly distort, through the manipulation of perspective, surface and depth, the common method of perception. The act of distortion reveals a theoretical platform from which, one can perceive multiple modes of existence.
This is not a perception of other worlds that exist separately from our own, rather, an insight to our own process of reflection.
