Davy Moakes

Throughout a life of study, teaching, marriages, children, industrial design, advertising, freelance graphic design & lecturing I maintained the enthusiasm to paint & sculpt; now blessed with good health & vitality I can indulge that compulsion full-time.

Following National Diploma in Design & Art Teachers Diploma in 1954 I taught for nine years at three grammar schools, including a BFES school in Germany until appointed to design manager at Pegler, Doncaster & for seventeen years was responsible for product design, publications, exhibitions & advertising. Redundancy in 1980 forced self employment as a graphic designer, artist & part time lecturer until retirement when at last I am able to paint full-time.

Abstraction has been an appeal since College 60 years ago when it seemed to be yet another passing phase & I am resolute further to develop my work towards the abstract whilst retaining recognisable images. The opportunity for working again in a plastic medium & the facilities, contacts & environment at the College will revive an enthusiasm for ceramic sculpture, give rein to a longing to work again with ceramics & help fully to release the genie within me.
