University of Derby   2005/2006

Christine Stangroom

Due to major life changes and financial restraints, I could not afford a press, nor travel to find open access facilities. My practice suffered for a year. The AA2A Scheme gave me use of the printmaking workshop at Britannia Mill, University of Derby (only five minutes walk from home), a helpful technician, materials for a new body of work, and the chance to work alongside students. Using my own photography as a basis for photopolymer etchings and collagraph prints, I addressed the theme of "changing Derby" at a time when many buildings are being demolished or transformed for new uses.

Since then I am pleased to say that Green Door Printmaking Studio has opened in Derby, an excellent facility for printmakers in the area.
