Annette Pugh

I am currently engaged in a body of work addressing dissolving and fragmented structures. This work was triggered by a dramatic pier fire in Somerset in the summer of 2008. Having witnessed this even first hand I was struck by the beauty of the collapsing structure and the aesthetic qualities of the remains.

I am developing a series of abstract images which explore both the subsequent tangled structure and a more personal response to the event. To date, this work has consisited primarily of painting. Tiny charred fragments of wood and a series of mobile phone snapshots act as a form of memoir but it is process and materials that drive the work forward. Over a period of time both imagery and technical concerns have led me to consider the graphic potential of print making.

Through the AA2A scheme I would like to develop my use of print making to explore issues that have become central to my current painting practice.

I aim to produce a seres of work exploring intensity of colour and delicacy of line. I am particularly interested in carborundum prints and lithography as disciplines and foresee that the deliberate and considered process of printmaking will be informative to my future painting/studio practice.

I look forward to a beneficial exchange between the diciplines.
