University of Portsmouth 2003/2004
Andy Parker
My work involves the reproduction of everyday objects and marks, using print, paint, photography and three dimensional strategies. With an underlying interest in curatorship and research into the realms of site specific practice, much of my work challenges accepted methods of presentation.
My initial application to Portsmouth was for an exciting body of work that used vandalised train windows as their starting point. The scratched graffiti of carriage windows was taken as the first stage in a print process where the glass, once removed from the train, could be inked up and printed in much the same way as a drypoint etching. I am now using this work to apply for further backing exhibitions planned for later this year. Eventually I hope to be able to make prints from all the windows of an entire train.
