Tozzy Bridger

This etching of a stoat, a squirrel, and a badger provides three examples of what I perceive to be classic British mammals. The three mammals are categorised into their family groups and labelled with their latin names.

I am attracted to the classification system as it fits in with my work which creates images putting things in boxes and strips. Scientific data is often presented as illustrated text, labelling and categorising alongside an image or diagram. It is this sort of visual imagery combining letterforms as diverse as scraggily writing or block type with pictograms, that I am attracted to.? It is this union of text and artistic drawing that I attempt to emulate in my biological studies to create a new whole; an art piece that carries scientific information.
