My main focus in the mediums that I have used have been in response to the
landscape. I find that I am interested in a narrative interpretation of the
landscape; its many variables and the challenge of capturing an essence of what I
see and feel and try to communicate to the viewer of my artworks. I tend to work
in a series of images with my photographs to try to convey a story, which is
very much influenced by my filmmaking experience. The framed image usually
suggests a tunneling of vision and I am also interested in the hidden but
suggested view that the frame excludes. Film offers another context, referencing
the still images but now with a continual shift of focus. I have experience in
printing both black and white and colour photographs. I have in the past used
forms of sculpture in the presentation of my photographs rather than maintaining
them in a completely two dimensional state and it is an area I wish to explore
much more fully.
I have recently moved from Yorkshire to Herefordshire and am excited at the prospect of discovering a new environment. I studied my BA Fine Art at Sheffield University and have undertaken commissions and residencies and exhibited extensively.
The support of a scheme such as AA2A has allowed me the opportunity to develop my work further with use of the facilities that [Hereford College of Art & Design] offers as I get to know the area, and also introduce me to like minded artists and associates.
