University of PortsmouthPete CodlingI have used the AA2A to produce work on a variety of public art projects. The opportunity to use the workshop and the library has enabled me to do research, present proposals and make maquettes for sculpture. I have worked on several projects during this time. I have been using a kiln in the ceramics studio to help me fire hand made clay pebbles which are number stamped and thrown into the sea in Portsmouth. This is an ongoing (10yrs) city wide public art project to make One Million Pebbles that can be found on Southsea Beach. The photograph shows a school helping me to throw some in. I am also working with Portsmouth City Council in the regeneration of the city centre as part of The Arts Council initiative ?Art at the Centre?. I have provided a Vision for the city centre which is now going through detailed design and will be built later this year. The University provided access to a studio and meeting space for community workshops. I have also been using the workshop to make models and present the designs. The specialist library has been very useful in researching architecture and shelters for the design of a Pavilion in Southampton and of course, the opportunity to sit down in peace and read all those expensive but essential periodicals in the search for new work.
