I applied to the AA2A scheme in order to learn techniques that would help me to develop my work in new directions.
My work examines the question of identity and the way we express this in the forms of our clothing and our architecture. Both are seen as metaphors for the body. I examine the fabric of both and overtly make the connection between the two by referring directly to techniques found in the textile and building industries. Through my sculpture I give substance to the perceptions of the freat 19th century architect Gottfried Semper, that a building is worn and not occupied. His understanding of body and clothes, structure and ornament as one, underpins the perceptual framework of my artistic work.
