Jeannie Kerswell

I locate my practice in New Genre of Public Art, a term championed by American artists and theorists, Mary Jane Jacob and Suzanne Lacey. My motivation as an artist emulates from communicating and making connections with people, in both the process and presentation of artwork.

I've produced work for specific locations, including, urban environment, public and private spaces, the internet and galleries. My working processes involve, installation, photography, digital processes, drawing, text, discussions, and questionnaires. Questioning the roles and positions of the artist has been central to my practice, always seeking to engage in work that is relevant to its situation and motivation. Through exploring this I have produced artworks from the artist positions of reporter, activist, reflector, facilitator and author.

I explore notions of audience and through interactions seek opportunities where the position can be renegotiated to activator, developer or participants to the work. I work on projects that create a network of shared dialogue around a common issue or location. I'm interested in process and processes, in systems and inter-activity.
